Saga of SUITI. World premiere

The Suiti Saga is a story of wild love, the visible sign of which for nearly four hundred years has been the unique folk costume of the Suiti tribe. It is the story of the monarchs of Alschwanga, Johann and Barbara, who put so much on the line for each other. A story from the depths of Courland, Rihards Dubra's opera The Suiti Saga is the first opera to have ever been created with the suggestion of Liepāja city.

With support from the Ministry of Culture, a new Latvian original opera has been created within the Latvian Centenary program. One of the globally most sought-after Latvian composers, Rihards Dubra, has created his work with a story based on historical events in Courland four hundred years ago. The author of the libretto is a former provost of Alsunga (Alschwanga), Gatis Mārtiņš Bezdelīga.

The Suiti Saga is staged by the brilliant Latvian conductor, leader of the State Academic Choir Latvija and chief conductor of the Song Festival, Māris Sirmais, and the main solo parts will be perfomed by Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine, Juris Vizbulis, Rihards Mačanovskis, Laura Grecka, Rinalds Kandalincevs, and the music will be performed by the State Academic Choir Latvija and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.
