“Magnificello” is an impressive concert performance. At its heart is the cello, its strong, lustrous sound, the variety of playing techniques and the richness of expression. Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Pēteris Vasks, Pablo Casals, Gaspar Cassadó and Zoltán Kodály is intertwined with quotes from autobiographies of world-famous musicians, verses by poets and interesting technical facts. The creators of this unique performance are Latvian cellist Gunta Ābele, who lives in Switzerland, and beloved actor Vilis Daudziņš. Together, they conjure up a story about the sound of the cello, the cellists, the destinies of composers, their weaknesses, passions and historical events.
