Brodsky Quartet. Beethoven and Shostakovich

Chamber Hall’s series PERSONALLY

The Brodsky Quartet is a British string quartet named after the famous Russian violinist Adolph Brodsky (1851-1929). During its 47 years of brilliant performance, the band has played countless quartets created by the great geniuses of classical music – Schubert, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and others – as well as has collaborated with pop musicians such as Björk and Paul McCartney. Since 1972 the Brodsky Quartet has given more than 3000 concerts on the largest stages in the world and has released more than 60 music recordings. Natural curiosity and a relentless desire to explore have guided the band through a variety of artistic paths, securing world fame on the international stage of chamber music, as well as allowing them to develop a rich musical programme. Their repertoire includes many gems of classical music and they have received countless international awards, including the prestigious French prizes “Diapason D'Or” and “CHOC du Monde de la Musique”. The most influential Scottish critic Michael Tumelty has said about them: “The Brodsky Quartet is not just a great band. They are a phenomenon!”

In Liepaja the Brodsky Quartet will open the spring season of the concert series “Personally” by offering the audience an exclusively selected programme. In the first part of the concert we will hear Ludwig van Beethoven’s Great Fugue, often referred to as one of Beethoven’s highest achievements, followed by the last instrumental work of the English classic Benjamin Britten – String Quartet No. 3. In the second part of the concert – String Quartet No. 3 by Dmitri Shostakovich – the most outstanding symphonist of the 20th century.

The programme includes:
