INGA KALNA. VOCAL TREASURES

Chamber Hall’s series PERSONALLY

Latvian opera diva Inga Kalna excels in classicism and baroque repertoire and performs in opera theatres all around Europe. Her bel canto programme, featured in this evening’s concert, won the Latvian Great Musical Award 2016 as the Best Performance in Chamber Music. The programme unites the vocal treasures of three excellent chamber music composers – Richard Strauss, Alfrēds Kalniņš and Jānis Mediņš. Kalna’s voice is accompanied by the brilliant pianist Diāna Ketlere.

Performers:

Inga Kalna is much in demand in Europe as a brilliant interpreter of baroque, classical and, in recent years, also romantic repertoire. Her soprano is saturated with color, her technique of coloratura admirable and sense of style precise and competent. Inga Kalna has performed with the Hamburg Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Paris National Opera, La Monnaie of Brussels, La Scala, the Salzburg Festival, the Bolshoi as well as other prestigious concert venues and festivals. Inga Kalna’s repertoire consists of lyrical soprano parts, chamber music and large-scale works by almost all the important Western European composers, including sacred opuses by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Berlioz and Verdi and Mahler’s Fourth Symphony.

Inga Kalna studied singing at the Latvian Music Academy and the Royal Music Academy in London where she received several prizes. Her studies in musicology at the JVLMA have fostered her maturing as an artist. She has been a soloist with the Latvian National Opera and Hamburg Staatsoper.
