A production by director Inga Tropa “Lightning Thoughts: Irbīte” with Juris Bartkevičs in the lead role, talks in a binding and modern stage language about one of the Latvian legends of the first half of the 20th century - artist Voldemārs Irbe (1893-1944), the natives call him bare-foot Irbīte. The grand master of Latvian pastel painting was a peculiar person with an ascetic lifestyle - he drew attention not just with his unusual talent and fantastic painting spree, but also with his distinctive visual image. The small trotting man was seen in Riga, Jurmala and Tukums, always bare-foot with messy hair and a shaggy beard, dressed in ragged pants and overall, carrying a paper folder and box of crayons. "As for drawing - I am a realist because I only draw what I see. Drawing the past and future in painting is not right. Only the present belongs to it.'' said Irbīte, who is also famous for his quotes which are similar to short sermons. The stage work, which premiered in February 2018, was created with the support of the Music and Art Support Foundation in the show cycle of bright Latvian personalities in music and art.
