Cellist Edgar Moreau’s solo concert

 

The cleverness with which he learns new repertoire, the passion with which he plays in every concert, the skill which can only be gained with years of experience, and the spontaneity offered by a modern drive - this is what characterises French cellist Edgar Moreau, whose star already shone brightly at the age of 17, when he won silver at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In his native France, the medal, despite it being a mere silver, was greeted with ovations, and the musician himself has said that it was second place, rather than winning, which opened the doors to so many concert stages.

French cellist Edgar Moreau (1994) won second place at the International Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of seventeen in 2011. A few years earlier, he won the Young Musician prize at the 2009 Rostropovich Competition. In 2013, the jury of France’s most significant record industry awards, Victoires de la Musique, praised him as the year’s Révélation in the Instrumental Music Soloist category.

 

Moreau considers his cello to be very special. Not only because it is a 1711 David Tecchler, a famous German cello maker of the so-called Roman school, but because his parents bought it for him when he was still very young; they presented it to him after his first success at the 2009 Rostropovich Competition in Paris. Moreau calls his instrument a “wonder”.

Moreau is an exclusive Warner Classics artist, and he has already recorded six albums with this record label, including cello miniatures, 18th century cello concertos, and the music of Claude Debussy, César Franck, Francis Poulenc, Rita Strohl, Jacques Offenbach and Friedrich Gulda.
