Over the past few years in Latvia, Ievas Saliete's name has become almost synonymous with "harpsichord". She has polished her skills in the ancient music hubs Freiburg and Basel, but for quite a while now has managed to combine international concert life with that in the lovely surroundings of Rēzekne town in Latvian countryside, where she gathers inspiration in the giddily blooming apple orchards, the colourful days of Indian summer, and among peacefully glittering snowdrifts. Our programme is similarly varied. Saliete comes together with her musical friends, Sinfonietta Rīga, to perform once again the music of Johann Christian, the son of Baroque grandmaster Bach, and adherent of the ideas of the Enlightenment; and, for the first time, to present "Strēles" (The Beams of Light), the new harpsichord concerto by Andris Dzenītis, inspired by Latvian symbolist painter Rūdolfs Pērle and the warm, divine aura of his painting "Sun". Along with these, we will hear Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz's Concerto for string orchestra which continues the concerto grosso tradition, and the Sturm-und-Drang era Symphony in C minor by "Swedish Mozart" Joseph Martin Kraus.
