LNSO, TCHAIKOVSKY, AND RACHMANINOFF

Lukas GENIUŠAS – piano
Conductor Gintaras RINKEVIČIUS

Programme:
Pyotr TCHAIKOVSKY Manfred
Serge RACHMANINOFF Piano Concerto no. 1

In between the Fourth and Fifth, Tchaikovsky created another classic of the symphonic genre, starring the protagonist of Byron's poem, the Faustian, guilt-ridden Manfred, who desperately yearns to find inner peace. In this voluminous work, Tchaikovsky reveals subtle and exquisite facets of the plot. In the symphony's finale, Manfred finds peace in eternal rest. The second part of the concert will feature the First Piano Concerto composed by Serge Rachmaninoff in his youth, with pianist Lukas Geniušas, a favourite guest on Latvian stages, as soloist, and maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius at the conductor's podium.
