Multimediāla koncertprogramma / Mirdzums un kontrasti. Mijiedarbība

Trio Carmine  reunites three brilliant and creative musicians of the younger generation. Clarinettist Anna Gagane, violinist Magdalēna Geka and pianist Lukas Loss all are very experienced and accomplished soloists and chamber musicians, having gained success in multiple international competitions

The Trio’s work features not only a classical repertoire created for their ensemble, but also contemporary music, especially works created by young Latvian composers. The young musicians strive to challenge classical dogma and push boundaries that separate classical music from other types of art and creativity, and they implement that into their work by collaborating with video artists and actors.
The two heavyweights of the program “Glitter and Contrasts. Interaction” are Béla Bartók and Aram Khachaturian’s trios for violin, clarinet and piano, both of which were written in the 1930s. Even though both composers were inspired by traditional melodies of Hungarian and Roma folk music, it is natural that both authors interpreted the theme in rather different ways. The concert will be opened with Czech composer J. B. Vaňhal’s classic Trio in E-flat Major, and an intriguing ambience will be created with the unusual “Glitter” (“Mirdzums”) by intricate Latvian modernist Santa Ratniece.

The Clarinetist Anna Gagane has received Latvia’s Grand Music Award and the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. Since 2019, Anna has been the assistant principal clarinet at the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and a lecturer at the J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. In addition to her work at the Orchestra and the Academy, she regularly takes part in chamber music projects, collaborates with young composers and frequently performs as a soloist in Germany, Switzerland and Latvia.
The Violinist Magdalēna Geka is a frequent solo and chamber music performer in such venues as the London Wigmore Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris and has received a nomination for Latvia’s Grand Music Award 2020. Magdalēna Geka holds a Master’s degree in both Violin and Chamber Music from the Paris National Conservatoire, as well as Artist Diploma from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium.
The Swiss pianist Lukas Loss graduated his bachelor and master studies in Basel with distinction. Playing with the Basel Symphony Orchestra and prestigious choirs and early music ensembles, he has performed in a wide range of genres, from academic music to George Gershwin's compositions.

This concert will feature video pieces specially created for this program by the artist Mārtiņš Zutis
