Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich Quintet. Light is Falling

To present their latest music album, Gaisma krīt (Light is Falling), Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich Quintet will perform a selection of songs by Latvian composers of special significance to Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich. Special arrangements have been created for all pieces, authored by both Jolanta herself and the talented jazz pianist Kristaps Vanadziņš. The concert program includes such works as Imants Kalniņš and Vizma Belševica’s Dūdieviņš, Aigars Voitišķis and Viktors Kalniņš’ Cik savādi, Mārtiņš Brauns and Jānis Peters’ Dziesma par spēli, Raimonds Pauls and Jānis Peters’ Ja Tevis nebūtu, and other songs that are dear and meaningful for the Latvian people.

Here is what Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich has to say about the upcoming concert: “We must thank Latvian composers and lyricists for the richness of our national culture. I have been raised with this music, it has shaped my musical taste. This program is my tribute to my nation, my people.”

We will enjoy the program performed by a quintet, where the charming vocalist will be joined by a brilliant band of musicians – saxophonist Deniss Paškevičs, pianist Kristaps Vanadziņš, bass player Jānis Rubiks and drummer Rūdolfs Dankfelds.

Jolanta Gulbe Pashkevich is one of the most extravagant singers of the Latvian professional jazz elite, with a timbre-rich and powerful voice. She is one of the most sought after performers of bossa nova and Portuguese fado in the Baltics. Parallel to her primary activity in this field, Jolanta has been a jury member on several Latvian TV shows and a vocal teacher, and she has also created international music projects and recorded music albums with masters of jazz, soul and world music from Europe, Russia, and the US, with whom she continues to collaborate. Latvian audiences are familiar with her collaboration with the Swedish keyboard player Hans Antehed, with whom she has recorded two albums, Latvian Sentiments and More Latvian Sentiments, as well as her collaboration with the Puerto Rican guitarist Neff Irizarry both on the project Baltic Nova Collective, recording the album Chove Chuva, and the album Fly Love, which also featured the American bass player and singer James Werts.

In compliance with all safety measures, approximately 400 attendees are invited to enjoy the concert in the Great Hall.
