A meeting of two Viennese masters – Beethoven and Mahler – in tonight’s programme. Legend has it, Mahler used to hope that his works would be performed as frequently as Beethoven’s. Who knows whether anyone keeps a tally, but, without doubt, both composers have penned expressive music that enjoys equal popularity. Johannes Held’s velvet baritone is, too, a source of pleasure among both European and American audiences. According to critics, he is an artist “who can both act and sing, setting a whole new standard – a formidable combination, when one is lucky enough to encounter it”. Having already shared several renowned stages across Europe, this time, Poga and Held will delight Latvian listeners.
