LMF. Deep Time. Dance show by Virpi Pahkinen

In her childhood, Virpi Pahkinen, growing up in the middle of Finland, studied classical music, while in her teenage years she became a fan of figure skating. The Stockholm-based artist is known as one of the most prominent Nordic dancers and choreographers today - the winner of several competitions has performed in 45 countries with great success, dancing on stages of famous opera houses and in unusual places - Mongolian steppes and on rafts, participated in various cinema and theatre art projects, including collaboration with the legendary director Ingmar Bergman.

Virpi Pahkinen visits Liepaja Art Forum with her own staged dance performance "Deep Time", which premiered in Sweden two years ago. The creative team of the project plays archetypal images and balances between calm reflection and an explosive flow of energy, striving to build bridges between antiquity and bold future visions. The sound score of Jonas Sjöbloms marks the voices of bats; primitive rhythms echo with medieval melodies and grow into an intensely pulsating techno wave. In the choreography of Virpi Pahkinen, subtle humour is intertwined with alarming peace. And dancers appear as zoomorphic images – mermaids turn into jumping lizards, but paper angels – into bionic birds.
