Iranian Music Legend Saeid Shanbehzadeh The World in an Amber / Iran

The concert offers a unique aspect of hypnotic dances and trance music from the Persian Gulf brought from Africa in south Iran a few centuries ago. Since 1990, leader of the ensemble Saeid Shanbehzadeh and his ensemble, delighted audiences in Iran, Europe and North America with their mesmerizing musical rhythms and melodies. In this program Saeid invites the audience to an intimate journey on a carpet. With his three companions, Rostam Mirlashari, Naghib Shanbehzadeh and Sheida Bozorgmehr, they improvise in all simplicity.

The Shanbehzadeh Ensemble is an Iranian folk band, formed in Bushehr in 1990. The band offers a rare aspect of the traditional music and dance of the Persian Gulf, more specially of the province of Bushehr, south of Iran and bordering Persian gulf. Shanbehzadeh’s music draws on the musical traditions of Busher in the south of Iran - a region historically populated mostly by Iranians of African and of Arab descent. The resulting musical style has direct roots in Arabic and African music.

He began with percussions, singing, and traditional dance. At 20 he founded the group of Shanbehzadeh Ensemble and won the 1st prize at the Fajr Music Festival in Tehran in 1990. In 1996 he was invited by the University of Toronto to teach a half-a-year course. In 2007 he was invited again by La Cité de La Musique of Paris to teach dance, singing and music.
