Benjamin BRITTEN Soirées musicales
Benjamin BRITTEN Simple Symphony
Benjamin Britten was born in a small town near the North Sea and grew up to become a world-famous composer. He showed musical abilities from an early age, and he had already written around 100 compositions by the age of 14. At the age of 22, Britten wrote the soundtrack for a romantic film about two young Scottish lovers, inspired by Rossini’s themes. This is how he composed the sprightly, cheerful Soirées musicales, which is included in today’s programme next to his Simple Symphony, conjured as simply as its title – take your own childhood compositions and transform them into pieces for a small-scale symphony orchestra. Even a grown-up composer is a child inside!
