CONCERT FOR MOTHER LATVIA

CONCERT FOR MOTHER LATVIA

Embedded in the programme’s essence is the thought of Latvia’s beauty and value in the future; the repertoire consists of new and just recently finished compositions by Latvian composers.

The first part of the concert will feature the Symphonic Miniature cycle "Five Tapestries for the Beauty of Latvia" (“Pieci gobelēni Latvijas skaistumam”) and compositions by Maija Einfelde, Selga Mence, Marina Gribinčika, Gundega Šmite and Santa Ratniece made specifically for this event, will be performed. To paraphrase the musicologist-approved concept "soundpainting" (“skaņu glezna”), sound weavers will be beckoned to create sound tapestries, because it is exactly female composers who can best comprehend and depict Mother Latvia’s beauty in song, being sisters, mothers, beloveds. The Second Symphony by Rihards Dubra, also known as the Latvian Centenary Symphony, which the audience received with heartfelt rapture a few years ago, will be performed in the second part of the concert.
