RIGA ROOM AVANT-GARDE SESSIONS: JIM BLACK /USA/, MARC DUCRET /FR/ & LIUDAS MOCKŪNAS /LT/

Avant-garde is described as something unorthodox, radical and experimental. The american drummer Jim Black couldn't be more of that - he has been one of the most influential drummers of our time and is still surprising with every beat. He has included advanced techniques and new sounds in the jazz music context, starting with the polyrhythmic language of the Balkan music and being an innovator in the use of electronics in improvisation. Since the mid 90's he has played together with such artists as Andrew D'Angelo, Dave Liebman, John Zorn and many more who have noted him for his limitless technique and futuristic concepts. He definitely is the master of the future jazz.

Together with Jim Black you will hear the french guitarist Marc Ducret - one of today's most original improvisers. He is a self-taught, extraordinarily gifted musician, who does not restrict himself to a particular style. He attacks with ferocious electric guitar outbursts while drifting into subtle impressionistic abstractions, bursting into noise avalanches or playing with bits and pieces from the world of flamenco and classical music.

This concert will not be the first time Marc Ducret will share a stage with the lithuanian saxophone player Liudas Mockūnas - they have been a tandem for more than 15 years. Mockunas himself has been active on European Jazz scene as a solo performer and as a co-leader of many bands, including his and Ducret's award-winning band “Toxikum”.

Together, Marc, Jack and Liudas will bring an unpredictable, fearless and simply beautiful performance, showing avant-garde as you've never heard it before.
