The Baltic Academies Orchestra (BAO) is a new and innovative joint educational project of the Music academies of the three Baltic States, GMF La Nota and the Baltic Sea Philharmonic.
In celebration of the 100-year independence of the three Baltic States, the orchestra will tour cities of the Baltic States, as well as Gdansk and Berlin. The artistic director of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Kristjan Järvi is the driving force behind the BAO and will be the central figure in its activities, along with his colleagues - conductors Guntis Kuzma /Latvia/ and Modestas Barkauskas /Lithuania/. “Over 100 young musicians from faraway Hong Kong, Brazil and Costa Rica to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have applied for participation in its first educational week." Lukas Groen, project leader of BAO said. "The main goal of the BAO is to bridge the gap between education and professional practice, giving high-level students new skills and experiences to help prepare them for their own and unique performing careers on every level."
The BAO project is supported and financed by the governments of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, EAS Enterprise Estonia and by other funders from each country. As the three nations prepare to celebrate the centenary of their independence in 2018, the BAO represents a major new cultural collaboration, presenting the greatest in Baltic culture, its music and talented musicians.
