TEODOR CURRENTZIS & orchestra MusicAeterna

He receives standing ovations in the world's top opera houses; his concerts are always sold out. Teodor Currentzis will perform at the Latvian National Opera on October 23. This concert will be the first one on his European concert tour.

Brilliant Teodor Currentzis - a cult Greek-born Russian conductor, whose looks resemble those of a rock star, not a classical musician. The graduate of Greek National Conservatoire and St. Petersburg State Conservatory became a real phenomenon on the world stage. This year he had the honour to open the most prestigious world music forum in Salzburg. Currentzis, accompanied by orchestra and choir "MusicAeterna", performed Mozart's "Requiem" and opera "The Clemency of Titus" that resulted in waves of applause from the audience.

Teodor Currentzis and his orchestras have been repeatedly nominated for the prestigious Grammy award, and in 2017 the conductor and "MusicAeterna" won the BBC Music Magazine Opera Award for the recording of Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni”. In 2016 Currentzis earned his third ECHO Klassik award.

In spring, Currentzis signed a contract with the illustrious German "SWR Orchestra", becoming its main conductor for 2018/2019 season. Teodor has been repeatedly invited as a guest conductor for the world's leading orchestras, and in 2008 he directed Verdi's opera "Don Carlos" at the Paris Opera. The production received rave reviews from the critics. The collaboration of Currentzis with the Paris Opera has also resulted in a joint project with the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre - the production of Verdi's opera "Macbeth".

Project "The Mozart — Da Ponte Trilogy in Perm" was a real breakthrough in the conductor's career. The project was brought to life under the guidance of Teodor Currentzis and with the help of various directors and artists: Cosi fan tutte / "All Ladies do it" (2011, director Matthias Remus), Le nozze di Figaro / "The Marriage of Figaro" (2012, director Philipp Himmelmann) and Don Giovanni (2014, director Valentina Carrasco).

His collaboration with the director Robert Wilson - the production of "La Traviata" (2016, co-produced with the Perm Opera, "Unlimited Performing Arts", Denmark, "Landestheater Linz", Austria, and "Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg", Luxembourg) became a new and unseen interpretation of the Verdi's opera, which helped the talanted conductor to win the "Golden Mask" award for the seventh time in his career.

Teodor Currentzis is also the artistic director of the International Diaghilev Festival and art director of the project "Territory".

On October 23, the conductor will perform Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No.1, Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 and his Piano Concerto No.2 (soloist - Alexander Melnikov). Teodor Currentzis will perform with his orchestra "MusicAeterna".
