Daumants Liepins (Liepiņš) is a young Latvian pianist, born in Ogre, Latvia, started to play piano at age of 5. He started winning prizes in numerous piano competitions already from a young age, including 1st prize in the National Piano Competition (2003), 2nd prize and Special Rainer Kadenbach award for the best interpretation of a Beethoven sonata (2009) at an international competition for young performers in Oldenburg, Germany as well as 1st prize at Inese Galante young talents competition in 2014.
In 2017 Daumants became the 1st prize winner of the 8th Nordic Piano Competition. In 2016 Daumants was one of top 6 pianists at George Enescu Competition, where he played 2 recitals LIVE on Medici TV that were broadcasted worldwide and later in 2016 he won the 3rd Prize in The Fifth RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition in Manchester, UK (WFIMC).
Daumants won the Grand Prix of the Lielā Mūzikas Balva for the year 2016 (Latvian National Grand Music Award) in the Young Artist of the Year category.
Daumants has performed with several symphony orchestras, including Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony orchestra and Kaunas Symphony orchestra. In 2016 he won the audition to perform Rachmaninov concerto no 3 with the symphony orchestra of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, this performance was nationally broadcasted on the radio, and in the end of the year received the Student Award of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
He was the Young Artist of the Glafsfjordens Musik Festival in Sweden in 2015 and 2016 and gave solo recitals in Helsingborg and Gothenburg piano festivals in 2016.
Daumants has a permanent chamber music partner with violinist Madara Liepina, with whom he won the 1st prize at the Chamber music competition in Latvian Academy of Music in 2015 and 3rd prize at T. Gaidamovich Chamber Music Competition – Festival in Russia.
In February 2016 he was chosen to be one of 4 participants of Mitsuko Uchida Workshop in Carnegie Hall.
Besides that, he has participated in masterclases with Dmitri Bashkirov, Alexander Ghindin, Roberto Poli, Erik T. Tawaststjerna, Mats Widlund, and others.
Currently, Daumants is studying at Ingesund / Karlstad University in Sweden with prof. Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist and in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music class of prof. Arnis Zandmanis.
