BALTIC SYMPHONY FESTIVAL. A PAIR OF FOURTHS. TÜÜR. SCHUMANN

25 NOVEMBER AT 19.00, THE GREAT GUILD
BALTIC SYMPHONY FESTIVAL.
A PAIR OF FOURTHS. TÜÜR.
SCHUMANN
GUNTARS FREIBERGS – PERCUSSION
CONDUCTOR KRISTIINA POSKA
Programme:
Erkki–Sven Tüür Symphony no. 4 Magma for solo percussion and orchestra
Robert Schumann Symphony no. 4
Tüür is a resident of the juniperous Hiiumaa island, and his Symphony no. 4
depicts magma, or molten rock that burns in the depths of the Earth, as well
as other planets. According to the composer, in his work, there is a rising
tension between the mass of the dark granite and the translucent cloud
of crystalline structures. Percussion plays an important role in this breathtaking
symphonic adventure, and in the performance in Riga it will be the
responsibility of Guntars Freibergs, an outstanding soloist with excellent
education. The programme is counterbalanced by Schumann’s Symphony
no. 4 – a light classicist echo of the Romantic Era.
