Tālivaldis Ķeniņš recalls his friends, and the core of his symphonic work Beatae
voces tenebrae (Beautiful Voices of the Past) is the monogram BACH. Ķeniņš’s
teacher Olivier Messiaen is looking at length – with passion and ardour –
at the swift passage of time; his song of love bursts with transcendental,
resplendent joy. The sound of the symphony orchestra entwines a marvellous
piano part and the ecstatic bellow of the ondes Martenot.
