RĪGAS SENĀS MŪZIKAS CENTRS (the Riga Early Music Centre) is a leading organizer of early music activities – festivals, concerts, residences – in the Baltic States with a wide range of international cooperation (to mention – long-term cooperation as partner and Baltic States representative in project EEEMERGING+, supported by Creative Europe). 

Over the past 30 years, under the guidance of director and conductor Māris Kupčs the Riga Early Music Centre, has become an integral part of Latvian culture. The organisation brings together professional musicians who are interested in playing early music based on historical traditions and using period instruments or their copies, with the main aim of developing and popularizing this trend as well as exploring Baltic culture and music heritage and playing it internationally.

EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL "VIVAT CURLANDIA!" 2023
For already the eight time (15th - 16th of July) early music instruments, historical dress, opera by candlelight, superb medieval music groups from abroad and local early music practitioners will turn the Latvian town of Bauska into a place where one can see, hear and feel what everyday life was like for people in the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Early Baroque period through a vivid celebration of early music – the Vivat Curlandia! music and arts festival devoted to the time when the Kettler dynasty ruled in the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia.

The festival will feature 8 early music concerts over the course of two days, drawing hundreds of listeners to Bauska Castle, the Bauska Cultural Centre and the Bauska Church of the Holy Spirit. It will also host a children’s morning programme dedicated to early music instruments and the most-awaited event of the festival – historical opera performed by candlelight. In year 2023 it will be opera “Acis et Galatee” (1686) by Jean Baptiste Lully.
