VIENĀ ELPAS VILCIENĀ! | 4 izrāžu ieraksti tiešsaistē

IN ONE BREATH! | 4 recordings of performances
The Latvian National Opera and Ballet present four one-act online pieces in April: the opera "Pagliacci" by Ruggero Leoncavallo, the ballet "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel and Krzsysztof Pastor, and the operas "Le Villi" and "Gianni Schicchi" by Giacomo Puccini. Long hours are not always required to tell a story.  In one-act pieces, the story is told as if breathlessly or in one breath. It is common to combine several such works in one performance, but the online environment allows us to focus on each separate piece. Each one of them deserves the full attention of the viewer.

“Gianni Schicchi”, outstandingly directed by Viesturs Kairišs, has already been hailed as a comic opera favoured by the public in Riga and critics alike as part of “Il Trittico” in 2010. Five years later it returned to the stage of the Latvian National Opera alongside Puccini’s “Le Villi”. Initially conceived to spring from the plot of “The Divine Comedy” by Dante, it reveals human greed and avarice with ironic touch. Against the background of  squabbles and intricate plots of deception, weaved by good old family over parts of inheritance, a love couple manages to stumble into their sweet share of happiness.
