French composer Maurice Ravel once joked: I have written a masterpiece. Unfortunately, there is no music in it. Boléro has been translated into the fiery language of dance by choreographer Krzysztof Pastor, who is known and loved in Latvia and world-wide. Ravel’s magnificent music also inspired Daphnis et Chloé choreographer Attila Egerházi – a brilliant Hungarian dancer, choreographer and teacher, as well as the artistic director for the South Bohemian Theatre ballet company. In turn, several up-and-coming young Latvian choreographers will bring to life the characters of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
