The World inside Great Amber / Korea

The concert has been moved from May 30, 2020, to August 7, 2021. Previously purchased tickets are valid for the new concert date. We inform you that, due to unavailability of the musicians, the artists and concert program have been changed.

'A miracle', 'enchanting', 'a world-class singer' – just some of the positive responses from the international press about the Korean singer Youn Sun Nah. During her international career of almost 30 years, she has become one of the brightest jazz singers in the world. With her universal yet individual style, successfully combining jazz with pop and electronica, the musician has given traditional vocal jazz a new flavor and reached previously undiscovered musical horizons. “There are only a handful of singers in the entire history of music that had the talent to turn a music genre upside down: Nina Simone, Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse – and the equally talented and amazing Korean singer Youn Sun Nah,” critics describe the singer.

The singer's soft and crystal voice, the finesse and acknowledged vocal variations of French chanson enable her to turn the characteristic minimalist forms of jazz into powerful emotions, pure elegance and magic. The German medium ZDF Heute Magazine has described Youn San Nah as: “This woman is a vocal marvel, she is absolutely stunning,” and the French Le Figaro have complimented the singer as possessing “one of the most beautiful voices in modern jazz”.

The singer's sensual voice and special personality have conquered people's hearts all over the globe. Youn Sun Nah has given more than 500 concerts on all continents, most completely sold out. In 2014, she performed at the Winter Olympics closing ceremony in Sochi.

Foreign music critics point out that the singer has gone way beyond jazz: “Young Sun Nah is a true citizen of the world. Her voice, one of the most versatile and powerful of a generation, firmly proves her ability to embody both delicacy and raw power, skillfully combining the aesthetics of pop, jazz, electronica, and fusion.”

Youn Sun Nah will perform in Liepāja alongside the legendary Swedish jazz guitarist Ulf Wakenius, also known as Oscar Peterson’s last guitarist. A musician able to create intimate moods as well as making his guitar sound like an orchestra. They toured together as a duet for many years, developing «a nearly telepathic complicity on stage» (Libération) and turning their tandem into a real artistic gem. At the Great Amber they will perform pieces from the joint music albums of both (Voyage, Same Girl and Lento) and some songs from the Youn Sun Nah latest album Immersion

The artist's performance at the Great Amber will be her only one in Northern Europe. During the world tour 2019, the singer has performed over 70 concerts in Korea, Spain, France, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, the United States, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, and Poland. Youn Sun Nah has previously visited Latvia in 2012, within the winter concert series of the Rīgas Ritmi festival.
