Christmas Festival. Fairy Tales about Flowers

Performers: Gundars Āboliņš (storyteller), Dita Krenberga (flute), Valts Pūce (piano)

Production brings new life to the once very popular book by Anna Sakse “Flowers: Fairy-tales”. These are lyrical and warm, humorous stories about the happy and tragic lives of flowers, filled with fantastic adventures and even some scary episodes from time to time.

The mastery of the actor Gundars Āboliņš allows the flowers to bloom in all their magnificence and reveals human emotions that the audience can relate to and experience starting from laughter to tears. Music of Valta Pūce adds to the emotional mood of the fairy-tales, and the composer develops a sensitive interplay with Dita Krenberga. But images of Pēteris Apse bring the flowers to life in an unusual close-up.

The concert has been successfully staged both in Latvia and the US, as well as in several European countries. After the performances in New York the Director Dace Micāne-Zālīte wrote: “They brought Latvia to us – with its creative power, resounding Latvian language, powerful emotions and now “my batteries are charged”. I would especially like to point out the talent of the Latvian leading actor Gundars Āboliņš that reveals itself and dazzles you, with the ability to transform from one character into another within a split second, creating a vast gallery of “Flowers: Fairy-tales” characters.”
