The Most Beautiful Melodies of France Le Poème Harmonique

The world inside Great Amber / France

As a wonderful surprise for all lovers on Valentine's Day the world-famous, charming French early music ensemble Le Poème Harmonique from Paris will perform in Liepaja. The ensemble will sing the program of the ancient French songs Aux Marches du Palais (“On the Ladder to the Castle”), featuring bagpipes, flutes, percussion and various early instruments.

These melodies of the 15th-19th centuries, which are both popular and artistically valuable, are pure masterpieces and today form part of the cultural heritage of France. For centuries, French songs have been passed down from generation to generation. Although they have gradually changed over the years, the romances we will hear in “Great Amber” are still well known and loved in France.

With this musical program Le Poème Harmonique returns to the roots of traditional French songs. The artists have explored the ancient history of melodies and their original lyrics to offer their listeners a truly authentic sound. The recording of the concert program has received the highest rating in France (Diapason d'or and Le Monde de la Musique ('Choc')). Up to now the program has been performed at many prestigious concert venues – the Trianon Theatre in France (Théâtre du Trianon), the National Museum of Athens in Greece, the Prague Spring Festival in the Czech Republic, the Boston Early Music Festival in the USA, the Iglesia de la Recoleta Church in Chile, the National Museum in Tokyo and elsewhere.

Le Poème Harmonique, founded 20 years ago by conductor Vincent Dumestre, is an enthusiastic ensemble of musicians, who mainly play music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Using a variety of early instruments, they all bring together the poetic atmosphere of late Renaissance and early Baroque. Standing out on both the French and the international stage, the ensemble is known for its sophisticated original programs, the repertoire of which is characterised by a research approach and amazing vocal and instrumental sound.
