New Pianist Star Daumants Liepiņš

Chamber Hall’s series PERSONALLY

Twenty-four-year-old Daumants Liepiņš is one of the most promising pianists of the Latvian young generation. The musician continues his studies in Sweden, dazzles the juries of prestigious contests, and leaves no one who has been lucky to hear him play indifferent.

He started learning the piano at the age of 5 and today is the winner of many international piano competitions. He has won the prestigious “Vendome Prize” Piano Competition in Switzerland (2019), not only receiving a public ovation and recognition from jury, but also the opportunity to debut with a solo concert at the famous Verbier Festival in Switzerland and to publish a record on the Steinway Record Label. In Latvia, in 2017, he received the Great Music Award in the category Young Artist of the Year. In March 2019 he also became the laureate of the “Maria Canals” International Piano Competition in Barcelona and in 2018 – the 2nd prize winner of the George Enescu International Piano Competition. An extraordinary talent – a subtle and sensitive chamber musician, who is also aware of the charismatic soloist’s stance in team-work with the orchestra. His piano play is technically flawless, but interpretations – convincing in their content and emotionally filled.

In Liepaja the talented pianist will perform his new concert programme, consisting of three grands of piano music – outstanding and very different piano sonatas. We will hear the late Sonata A-major op. by Franz Schubert, the no less popular Frédéric Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor, as well as the Romanian Composer George Enescu’s Sonata No. 3, which will be played in Latvia for the first time and will be the special performance of this programme. It will surprise you with imitations of nature sounds, folk tunes, fiery rhythms and a flight of fantasy.

The programme includes:

Part 1

F. Schubert – Sonata in A major, D. 959 (37’00)

Part 2

F. Chopin – Sonata No. 3 in B minor, op. 58 (25’00)
