The grand opening of the already legendary international music festival “SUMMERTIME – Inese Galante & Friends” will take place on the 5th of August, with this year being particularly special due to the festival celebrating its 15th anniversary. A special gift to the audience will be the performance of the queen of French jazz – Mina Agossi. Her music includes world music, and blues, and jazz, and even rock — such an “explosive mix” puts the singer above all the characteristics and musical patterns. The singer is known for her adaptions of world-famous hits such as “Well You Needn’t” by Thelonius Monnka, “Voodoo Chile” by Jimi Hendrix, “Money” by the British rock band Pink Floyd, The Beatles songs and others. After living in Spain for a long time, Agossi returned to Paris, never ceasing to tour Europe and America tirelessly. She was nominated for the prestigious French Victoires du Jazz award, and collaborates with world jazz legend, saxophonist Archie Schepp, with whom she has repeatedly gathered full concert halls all over the world. On August 5, Mina Agossi for the first time will perform to the Latvian audience, within the framework of the festivals’ “Summertime – Inese Galante & Friends” Grand Opening concert program, at the Dzintari Concert Hall.

One more bright surprise for the loyal friends and guests of the festival on this day will be the performance of the authors of the soundtrack to the cult film “The Hunger Games” – a world renown band from the USA – Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. The artists have featured stars such as Prince, Snoop Dogg, Blur, Gorillaz and others.

The seven sons of Phil Cohran, the well-known Afro-American jazz trumpeter from Chicago, have gained world fame for their incredible energy in their performance, creating the synergy between each band member’s charm and unlimited talent. The versatility of their concerts manifests itself in combining musical genres – from hip hop to jazz and even funk rock, supplemented by Gypsy music themes. Critics describe their art as “music of the moment” while the audience on all continents of the world – from New York's Carnegie Hall to the legendary jazz club Ronnie Scott's in London – invariably accompanies the band’s concerts with relentless applause. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble's performance mesmerizes, turns on and at a subconscious level leads the listener to a new level of perception, allowing them to forget all the worries and enjoy this “moment”.

A special sense of festivity, along with a dose of carelessness this evening will be provided by the concert presenter and an old friend of the festival – Valters Krauze. Traditionally, the laureates of the “Inese Galante's Talents” contest will perform at the grand opening concert of the festival, raising a smile of delight on the faces of the listeners with their touching performances.
