ABOUT THE PERFORMER:

Georgy Osokin is the youngest pianist from the Osokin dynasty. His musical performances are famous for a deep, serious approach to art and interpretations with profound genuineness. “He possesses a rare Chopin musical interpreter’s talent,” explains the renowned pianist and teacher Sergey Babayan. But the legendary Russian pianist Dmitri Bashkirov has said the following words: “This young musician is exceptionally talented.”
After the final in the Chopin Competition in 2015, he became a sensation; the critics claimed he was “unpredictable, too revolutionary to be a winner”. Since participating in the Competition, Georgy has received invitations to perform in various countries of the world and prestigious festivals. Chopin’s music is the special trademark of this pianist. British record label “Piano Classics” released his debut CD album with Chopin’s late work; this recording received brave reviews from Canadian, French and German music publications. The new composition dedicated towards music of Sergei Rachmaninoff will be released at the beginning of 2019. This year Georgy will tour Asia and the US with Gidon Kremer, Giedri Dirvanauskaiti and Kremerata Baltica and debut in the prestigious Ruhr Piano Festival in Germany and Freiburg/Bern Piano Series.

Georgy Osokin graduated from Emīls Dārziņš Music School, he studied under his father Sergey Osokin in Riga, mastered his skills under Mikhail Voskresensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Among his teachers are also Dmitri Bashkirov, Sergei Babayan, Oleg Maisenberg and Bernd Goetzke. During recent years the young pianist has worked with the professor Georg Friedrich Schenck.
In 2016 he became the youngest winner ever to receive the Latvian Music Awards in the category “Aspiring Artist of the Year”. He was only 10 when he performed with an orchestra for the first time. Soon after, he became the laureate of the IX International Alexander Scriabin Piano Competition in Paris (2009). He won the special prize for the best performance of the Frederic Chopin work in the XXII International Piano Competition in Monza (Italy), in 2014 he won the IX International Chopin Piano Competition in China. In 2015, in the XVII International Chopin Competition in Warsaw he was included among the ten best pianists (from 450 participants). He also won first prize in the Manhattan International Music Competition in New York (2018). Georgy has performed in the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Facilities Concert Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, Fine Arts Theatre in Vancouver, substituting the world-renowned pianist Nelson Freire, in Birmingham Town Hall and other venues.
