Jēkabs NĪMANIS The Eighth for voice and wind instruments, Uldis Bērziņš’ poetry (premiere)
The LNSO wind instrument anniversary celebration begins with Beethoven’s Rondino – a charming small-scale work with clever instrumentation, written by a 22-year-young composer under Mozart’s spell. Richard Strauss’ Sonatina no. 2 dominates the programme – a lively, colourful symphony, written with splendid mastery. Enlightened by old age, Strauss dedicated the symphony to Mozart’s immortal spirit during World War II. And more – Jēkabs Nīmanis’ new work with lyrics by language genius and polyglot Uldis Bērziņš (1944).
