Arthur HONEGGER Symphonie Liturgique
Felix MENDELSSOHN A Midsummer Night's Dream
The earthly and the heavenly. The cosmic and the humane. Honegger wrote this symphony straight after World War II, examining conflicting concepts: succumbing to blind dominance and happiness instinct, striving for peace and the idea of a heavenly solace. Misery, happiness, and the man – Honegger’s timeless topics. Mendelssohn, on the other hand, reads Shakespeare and amuses himself in the forest where fairies, sprites, enchanted artisans and smitten youths can still be encountered.
