Five Minutes Until December

On September 22 and 23 the contemporary dance performance “Five Minutes Until December” by a team of internationally renowned artists will be presented in Riga. It combines an unusual trio of artists – the musician Intars Busulis and choreographer Karīna Lapšina from Latvia, choreographer and dancer Cai Rang Ren Qing from China. Jorge Crecis, the Spanish choreographer and mentor, who has worked with such notable artists as Paul McCartney, “Bat Lashes” etc., will also partake in the creation of this performance.

The author of the idea Karīna Lapšina for a broader audience is known as the author of last year’s contemporary dance performance “Viņš Viņu – Viņa Viņu” (“He Her – She Him”), created alongside with the musician Ralfs Eilands and the band “Coco’n’uts”.

Cai Rang Ren Qing in the past has already cooperated with the dance company “ĀRĀ” and has been the co-author of the dance performance “Turku kafija” (“Turkish Coffee”), which was nominated for the prestigious Latvian theatre award “Spēlmaņu nakts” (“Performer’s Night”) as the year’s most notable achievement in contemporary dance. Alongside with K. Lapšina and him, Alise Madara Bokaldere, whose Bachelor’s modern dance performance “Manu acu tulkojums” (“The Translation of My Eyes”) has been recognized among critics, will also take part in the creation of the choreography of this performance.

Five Minutes Until December” will symbolically tackle the question of how a man can take care of a woman as if she were a plant. The creators of the performance describe it as a “triangle in a dialogue of two” – from three different points of view multiple everyday situations will be re-enacted by comparing a woman to a cactus that needs attention and appropriate taking care of. “Five Minutes Until December” is a study which is based on personal experience about the connection between the opposite genders.
