Kristīne BLAUMANE, cello
Katya APEKISHEVA, piano

Programme:
Ludwig van Beethoven Cello Sonata in D major, Op. 102, No. 2
Claude Debussy Cello Sonata in D minor
Gundega Šmite Cancion de cuna
Frederic Chopin Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65

In her densely creative day-to-day live the cello section leader of the London Philharmonic Kristīne Blaumane saves chamber music for dessert - the cellist chooses to enjoy it with extraordinary stage partners and with audiences hungry for new musical horizons. After successful projects in the United Kingdom Kristīne will introduce the listeners in Riga to Katya Apekisheva, the Moscow-born professor of the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama piano department.

The central journey of the duet will begin in the 18thcentury Vienna with the enthusiasm of the young and hopeful Beethoven. Paris will shine brightly in Claude Debussy’s music with Francois Couperin’s vignettes; we’ll catch glimpses of held-back calmness and a Latvian-Greek gaze in the lullaby of Gundega Šmite, and a truly romantic ache surrounded by a Polish dance rhythms will appear in one of the last opuses of Frédéric Chopin.
