Festival VIA BALTICA:

For the 8th year musicians and artists from all around the Baltic States will meet at the festival “Via Baltica”. Through their art they will speak about the freedom of all three Baltic States, their independence and the road of its complicated and dramatic restoration in concerts, theatre plays, film screenings and a documentary exhibition.

Every year in August, around the remembrance day of the important and historic Baltic Way, the festival gathers audience of thousands to its different cultural events.

In 2018 the festival will be held from 3rd to 25th of August in three beautiful cities of Latvia – Liepaja, Kuldiga and Rudbarzi. This year’s festival will consist of chamber and jazz music concerts performed by Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian artists; biographical theatre play “My Magadan” by actor and director Eriks Vilsons; photo exhibition about children of deportations of the 14th June, 1941; four documentary films about people and events important for the Independence of Latvia – author of the Freedom Monument Karlis Zale, the unbreakable spirit poet Knuts Skujenieks, tradition of the Latvian Song Celebration and stories of the “Children of Siberia”. Festival will end on the beach of Liepaja where we will hear poetry of the famous Latvian poet Aspazija in sounds of jazz. This is the Night of Ancient Bonfires when many places along the coastline of the Baltic Sea light a bonfire to honor the Baltic Sea.
