At the end of the spring season of the Liepāja Concert Hall, we will experience a special kind of magic on the large stage, an interaction between folk and academic music presented by the band Raxtu Raxti and the esteemed chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga with conductor Normunds Šnē. The collaborative program will feature the most beautiful songs of Raxtu Raxti in new arrangements created by Emīls Zilberts.

State chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga have always been open to collaborating with musicians from non-academic circles, expanding their musical landscapes, and experiencing the joy of discovery. The music of Raxtu Raxti is characterized by a professional and heartfelt performance, passion, and the boldness to experiment with various traditional instruments, which provide many well-known songs with brand new nuances.

The band started their musical career with the work of composer Imants Kalniņš performed in a folk-music-like sound. At this concert, we will hear Imants Kalniņš songs ‘Karsta mana jauna dziesma’, ‘Rakstu raksti’, ‘Zanes dziesma’, and others. They are also tirelessly exploring folk music and traditional Latvian values, resulting in modern and attractive compositions that bring both energy and wisdom. The program will feature wonderful pieces by Raxtu Raxti – ‘Pūt, vējiņi’, ‘Rūtoj saule’, ‘Ai, saulīte, mēnestiņi’, and others.

The leader of Raxtu Raxti, ethnomusician Kristīne Kārkle-Kalniņa, is considered to possess one of the fiercest contemporary voices on stage, a true gem with natural musicality and magical power. The collective had their concert debut on November 18, 2014, with a grand concert at the Rīga concert hall, received by undisputed approval and excited praise from the audience. The band have released five albums so far.

The musicians currently performing as Raxtu Raxti are: Kristīne Kārkle-Kalniņa (vocals, violin, kokle), Marts Kristiāns Kalniņš (vocals, harmonies, piano, stabule, oboe), Edgars Kārklis (vocals, accordion, bagpipes, stabule), Armands Treilihs (bass), Artis Orubs (percussions), Ilze Grunte (guitar, harp, mandolin).
