‘Bad scrambled eggs is no just cause to butcher your wife’

The cemetery is full again, so local gravedigger Mick Dowd is hired to exhume the older bodies to make way for the new. This time, however, the ‘older bodies’ include the remains of his own late wife. The village is a small place of small minds, and there were always rumours regarding her death. Sinister rumours that settled long ago. Rumours that begin to re-emerge with the turning of her soil…

Martin Mc Donagh is the writer of The Pillowman, and  the author and director of motion pictures In Bruges and Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.  His newest film The Banhshees of Insherin was awarded as the best screenplay at the 79th annual Venice International Film Festival. Martin McDonagh’s darkly comic drama-meets-murder-mystery redefines the concept of graveyard humour and revels in the perversity of ordinary life.
