LAF. JAZZ AND ELECTRONICA. BAND LUPA

On the opening night of the Liepāja Art Forum, we will breathe life into the legendary club Kursa, proudly standing right by the sea. The contemporary jazz band LUPA will enchant the audience with a modern and exciting combination of jazz and fusion.

“Lupa are certainly worth checking out for both their musical originality and skill,” one of the most influential jazz magazines, British Jazz Journal, points out.

Lupa was founded in 2016 by four prominent Latvian representatives of jazz and contemporary music – Dāvis Jurka (alto saxophone, flute, effects), Ritvars Garoza (keyboard), Valters Sprūdžs (bass guitar), and Andris Buiķis (drums, The Tempest analog drum machine).

The collective’s debut LP Sequences And Consequences was nominated for the Latvian Music Record Award for Jazz Music and the Austras Balva Award in 2019, and they continued their success in 2021 by releasing a new record, Sketches of trees/Koki. Exclusively on the opening night of the Liepāja Art Forum, we will experience one of the first public performances of the album and be able to enjoy works of the collective dedicated to trees. Trees found across the Latvian natural landscape.

A bar will be working and refreshments will be available during the event.

As the night goes on, attendees will be welcome to stay longer to finish the opening celebration of the Liepāja Art Forum with the discotheque Aldis Ermanbriks.
