We have created a cinema day within the Liepāja Art Forum at the locally-beloved Culture House Wiktorija in collaboration with the Rīga International Film Festival. Three powerful auteur films about themes of eternity and humanity, which will definitely leave no heart untouched in the age of loneliness and indifference.
CINEMA program in collaboration with RĪGA IFF:
At the conclusion of the night – Polish director Jan Komasa’s 2019 film about twenty-year-old Daniel who experiences spiritual enlightenment at a juvenile incarceration facility. The committed crime prevents him from attending the religious seminary, and after a conditional release he is sent to work at a remote woodworking shop. However, Daniel is not ready to abandon his dream and, dressed in a clergyman’s clothes and aided by a misunderstanding, he starts service at the small-town congregation.
The story follows the path of twenty-year-old convict Daniel’s path through a fake life, where his bright-blue eyes convince locals to trust a pastor who looks up the words for a service on his phone and indulges in vodka, cocaine and techno music in his spare time. The script was inspired by true events. Even though it is preferred to keep secret, such stories are rather common in Poland.
