Works by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis arranged by Edgars Cīrulis, Jānis Rubiks, and Rokas Zubovas

Latvian classical and jazz musicians share the stage in honour of the 145th anniversary of Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The basis of the programme is Čiurlionis’s 1907 series of 12 paintings The Zodiac, transferred to sound by Čiurlionis’s great-grandson Rokas Zubovas, pianist Edgars Cīrulis, and double bass player Jānis Rubiks. We will hear works and improvisations by the young musicians, as well as Čiurlionis’s own compositions. While jazz and classical performers do not play together that often, considering that tonight is in the hands of Latvia’s Grand Music Award nominee Edgars Cīrulis and one of the most intelligent Latvian double bass players Jānis Rubiks, the team is bound to shine – just like in their past concerts and recordings.
