Programme:
- Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART Sinfonia concertante
- Sergei PROKOFIEV Symphony No. 1 (the Classical)
When Prokofiev was writing his First, he already knew that educated professors would reject it as sacrilege against Mozart; they would fiercely condemn the young composer’s insolence that made the great master turn in his grave. He also knew that the audience would enjoy the light, clear, authentic music, which is why he called it the Classical. The four soloists envisioned for Mozart’s Concertante were completely enamoured with the work of the genius; unfortunately, the work took more than a century to premiere. The two masters, who were separated by over a hundred years, will now meet in one concert to showcase the similarities, differences, and various expressions of classicism.
