A very young Raimonds Pauls travels to Georgia to perform in Tbilisi. Around that time, Giya Kancheli starts to develop an interest in jazz, and he is simply overjoyed to hear it live. This is how the two composers’ friendship started already six decades ago – excitement over each other’s music, heartfelt conversations, shared memories, numerous joint recordings and a CD made by the two. The Xylem Trio are also friends of Kancheli and performers of his works and so they will join in a conversation through music.
Silence often recurs as an important element of Kancheli’s music, including his work À la duduki, which is full of contrasts and hidden tension. Kancheli’s film scores illustrate the Georgian passage of life and a sound of a bygone era, while his suite Hanuma sparks a hint of humour.
