The Christmas concerts Christmas Under Candlelight by the Piano Quartet RIX have become a light-filled and joyous musical rendezvous that always treat sonic gourmands with a long unplayed or unknown treasure. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Piano Quartet RIX and the ensemble has celebrated it with several concerts around Latvia. The finale of this celebratory year will be brought about through the tunes of German, British and Latvian chamber music strings.
Johannes Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in A major caries on the chamber music traditions of Franz Schubert with a luminous lightness, the piano quartet by the early 20th century composer William Walton sketches silhouettes of pulsating vitality, eagerly grasping the rhythms of the urban world, and Folkoholostic – the piece by the composition pupil of Ādolfs Skulte Andris Balodis, a composer widely beloved by youth, written for the Jūrmala chamber music competition and adapted here especially for RIX excites with its folk kick.
