Rudens kamermūzikas festivāls. Bēthovena klaviersonātes

Buy

Musicians:
Daumants Liepiņš, piano

Programme:
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 2; Piano Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28 Pastorale; Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111

The piano sonata genre is most frequently mentioned in connection with the work of the great symphonic soundsmith Ludwig Van Beethoven. He wrote sonatas throughout his life – the first 4 were written still at the end of the 18th century while the last ones – five years before his death, vividly showcasing the composer’s stylistic metamorphosis and the zeitgeist.
Awaiting the composer’s 250th birthday in 2020, Latvijas Koncerti is offering their listeners the opportunity to hear all the Viennese master’s sonatas that several distinguished musicians will perform in a special concert series.
The fourth concert in the cycle will be a dialogue between Beethoven and one of the most noteworthy young Latvian pianists, the laureate of countless competitions Daumants Liepiņš who is currently studying in the Karlstad University in Sweden. The Swedish press has already called him a world-class musician with the aura of a genius.
Daumants Liepiņš is also a laureate of the prestigious Maria Canals piano competition (2019) and was named the Debut of the Year in the Latvian Grand Music awards (2017); in the last summer with an unanimous vote from the jury he won first place in the Vendome Prize in Verbier, Switzerland. For this conversation with Beethoven, the pianist has picked the composer’s first and last sonatas as well as the Pastoral sonata that was written in early 19th century.
