PÄRT, REICH, AND ZAĻUPE

Buy

Edgars SAKSONS, Uģis KRŪSKOPS, Atis VINTUKS, Elīna ENDZELE, Rihards ZAĻUPE, Ernests MEDIŅŠ – percussion

Programme:

  • Frédéric MACAREZ, Arvo PÄRT, Steve REICH, Rihards ZAĻUPE, and others

The LNSO percussionists will surprise the audience with the timbral richness and range of opportunities of percussions. The stage will be home to timpanis, two drum kits, the bony marimba, the jingling vibraphones, wooden boxes, and a large array of many different mysterious devices made for playing with rhythm, motives and moods. We will hear New York’s mathematical minimalist Steve Reich, a magnificent piece for timpani by Frédéric Macarez, an iconic work by world-famous Estonian genius Arvo Pärt. We are particularly eager to hear Rihards Zaļupe’s music for the film The Pagan King that he arranged for his talented colleagues and himself – the LNSO’s percussionists – with the author himself participating in the performance.
