Both soloists are well known to operetta and opera audiences who have enjoyed operettas “Ball im Savoy” and “The Merry Widow” at Culture palace “Ziemeļblāzma” e.t.c. As well as to those who have been in concerts organized by the Latvian Operetta foundation. Meanwhile, the concert’s artistic director Guntars Bernāts explains his choice to invite tenor Jānis Kurševs to perform at the event saying: “His voice is very suitable for the operetta repertoire and Neapolitan love-themed songs. The singer will show a never before seen expressivity in this genre.”

Jānis Kurševs graduated from Latvian Academy of Music under the guidance of the legendary professor Kārlis Zariņš as well as the magnificent vocal coach Anita Garanča. Listeners have had the chance to appreciate Jāni’s performance at the Annual Sigulda Opera Festival in 2015 where he played the role of Antiņš in the production of Arvīds Žilinski’s opera “Zelta zirgs” (Golden Horse).

Several years ago Jānis also participated in a production of Johann Straus’s operetta “The Gypsy Baron”. Lately he has been performing in different kinds of concerts as a soloist or accompanied by The Latvian Orthodox church male choir “Logos”. In April Jānis Kurševs will be performing a musical programme called “Your name, Daugava” with the Latvian Radio Choir.
