Baroque is an incomplete and crooked pearl that sparkles like mother of pearl in thousands of colours that shift and are incomplete. This is characteristic of music composed during the 17th century and first half of the 18th century. Different aspects of Baroque music were produced in Spain, Italy and France, but whether it is spiritual or temporal, Baroque music embodies movement, vitality and particularly delicate decorations of lace in terms of music composed for the royal court of France. François Couperin was an unbeatable virtuoso as a harpsichord player, known mostly as the composer of harpsichord opuses, more extensive instrumental music and wonderful and sacral opuses. His harpsichord sonata will be performed by a Latvian artist, Ernests Neimanis, who has spent several years in studying piano and harpsichord in Vienna. Jean-Marie Leclair, in turn, had enormous influence in the development of French music during the 18th century. He was distinguished as an unbeatable violin virtuoso and is seen as the founder of French violin performance. Leclair’s music is little known in Latvia and is performed very rarely, so this will be a special event featuring two opuses by the composer – a dance suite from the musical tragedy Scylla and Glaucus, which is based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, as well as the gallant and colourful Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, which will be performed by the distinguished Romanian violinist Mira Glodeanu, a true ambassadress for Leclair’s music throughout the world.
